Investors Making Big Bets on Natural Gas

This summer has shaped up quite differently than the one just a year ago, throwing a wrench into a number of commodities. 2012 was the warmest calendar year in U.S. history, and the summer was especially hot. This year has been a different story, as temperatures have remained relatively low with only a few heat waves in comparison to 2012. Commodity Earnings Recap: ADM, MRO, DVN

With the second quarter earnings season winding down, there are only a handful of companies left to report their results. Last week, oil and gas giants Chesapeake Energy Corp (CHK) and ConocoPhillips (COP) managed to beat analyst expectations, even after both companies reported declines in earnings and revenues, respectively. Aussie Rate Cut Puts Further Pressure On Gold (GLD)

Stock market bulls have eased off the throttle a bit in recent days as last week’s lackluster employment report reminded investors that while the housing market may have turned the corner, the labor market recovery remains anemic. To top it off, Fed Dallas official Fisher reminded investors in a speech on Monday that policymakers will need to scale back on bond repurchases because it is unhealthy for markets to keep rising on the notion that stimulus will always be readily available [for more commodity futures news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter]. In the commodity space, Alcoa had set the tone for the start of the season, beating estimates despite falling aluminum prices. And while other commodity stocks also managed to post better-than-expected results, some showed signs of weakness from this year’s commodity slump [for more commodity news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter].

3 Commodity Stocks To Buy On The Dip: FTI, NBL, PSX

Domestic equity indexes continue to float higher in uncharted territory as corporate earnings results have largely beat expectations, giving investors few reasons to cut winning trades amid the euphoria. Although housing market indicators have cooled off a bit in recent weeks, the Fed’s recent reassurance that it wouldn’t taper prematurely has certainly resonated very well with investors; the S&P 500′s sharp rebound following the “tapering-scare” that ended in late June is a testament that buyers will step in as long as the Fed lifeline is there [for more commodity futures news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter].
